Solar System~

How's your 'spacial' sense?
My students had almost none! Haha ...
They were surprised that the SUN was in the center of it~
^^ Well, now they know ...
and that there are 8 planets orbiting it~
Oh, and they even know the names of the planets in order!
Do YOU?!

Students first draw the SUN in the middle of the paper...
so they know the Sun is what's in the middle of the SOLAR system.
Then they draw 8 lines around the Sun. You may want to ask,
"Who can guess how many planets there are in the solar system?"
Hahah ... after the 8 lines around it ... NO ONE will miss this question.

... then I go around acknowledging their work...
saying they are great artists, so on and so forth...
just so the lines don't bore them~~

Give them different colour playdough representing each planet
and tell them to roll'em on the lines ...
imagining the planets orbiting the Sun out there in space
... as you give each dough ...
you teach the names of the planets in order
from the closest to the farthest from the Sun.

... walk around the class ... observing/assessing. ^^
you'll almost always find some students
trying to help their group members ...
Playdough is great cuz you get those kinesthetic learners involved.

Voila~~ At the end of this lesson the students should know
the names of the 8 planets that orbit the Sun, in order.

Read for the Record ... again~

Last year, my students participated in this Read for the Record
reading the book Curdoroy by Don Freeman.
This year ... we did it again and we read
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
It's a very popular children's book, and I have to confess
that it's waaaaaaaay too easy for my 3rd graders, but ...
it was fun. ^^

Separate Lives

You called me from the room in your hotel
All full of romance for someone that you met
And telling me how sorry you were, leaving so soon
And that you miss me sometimes when you're alone in your room
Do I feel lonely too?

You have no right to ask me how I feel
You have no right to speak to me so kind
We can't go on just holding on to time
Now that we're living separate lives

Well I held on to let you go
And if you lost your love for me, well you never let it show
There was no way to compromise
So now we're living
Separate lives

Ooh, it's so typical, love leads to isolation
So you build that wall
Yes, you build that wall
And you make it stronger

Well you have no right to ask me how I feel
You have no right to speak to me so kind
Some day I might find myself looking in your eyes
But for now, we'll go on living separate lives
Yes for now, we'll go on living separate lives
Separate lives

Lou Bega ~

I woke up this morning with the tune to Mambo Number 5
... hahaha ... even though most of Lou Bega's songs got awful lyrics ...
but I just love the rhythm and all~ and come on ... he's HOT! Hahah...
Well, ... it's Youtube moment ...
